Prof. Kituyi is a Ugandan Information Systems and Technology expert with 17 years of experience. He is currently the Dean, Faculty of Vocational and Distance Education at Makerere University Business School (MUBS). He has a Ph.D. in Information Communication Technology, Master of Science in Information Systems, Postgraduate diploma in Information Technology Policy and Regulation, and a Bachelor of Business Computing.
Prof. Kituyi is a multi-disciplinary researcher with over 65 peer-reviewed publications in the areas of information systems, information technology, and business management. He has also published three textbooks on database programming, accounting information systems, and computerized investments appraisal. His research output has gained him global recognition. According to the AD Scientific Index, a global platform that ranks scientists based on research output and citations, Prof. Kituyi is ranked number 1 scientist in Computer Science and Engineering Technology disciplines at MUBS and number 4 in all disciplines. Countrywide, he is ranked 2nd in computer science and 12th in engineering technology. Overall, in all disciplines, he is ranked 116th top scientist in Uganda. Over the years, Prof. Kituyi has supervised 13 Ph.D. and more than 40 masters students. He is also an External Examiner of Ph.D. and masters theses at the University of Cape Town and Venda University, South Africa as well as Makerere University. He supervises Ph.D students at Makerere University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Nkumba University and The ICT University. He has presented a number of papers in national and international conferences and is also a Co-Chair of the International ICT for Africa Conferences. He is the Editor of the ICT for Africa Conference Book of Proceedings and a reviewer for various academic journals.
Prof. Kituyi is well conversant with both quantitative and qualitative research methods, data management and analysis. He has conducted various investigations on e- health projects in Uganda, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya. Some of his recent projects includ an investigation on e-health systems interoperability in Ugandan hospitals; social media and health behavior in sub-Saharan Africa; e-Medicine uptake in Uganda, Nigeria and Ethiopia; examining health information systems success factors in Uganda’s healthcare system; design of sustainable telemedicine information systems for developing countries; strategic alignment of health information systems in Uganda.
Prof. Kituyi has experience in curriculum development having been a member of the Course Review Committee at Makerere University Business School and also at The ICT University, Cameroon. Over the years, he has helped to develop several quality programmes from certificate to Ph.D. levels.
He is also a consultant of Information Technology and Systems as well as Monitoring and Evaluation. His recent consultancies include implementation of the Shs. 2.5bn e-Booster programme at Uganda Communications Commission (currently under implementation), work readiness programme, Mid-Term Evaluation of the U-Learn project under Swisscontact Uganda among others.
Prof. Kituyi previously served as an Adjunct Professor at Southern University, Baton Rouge, USA where he was also Deputy Director of the International Center for Information Technology and Development. He also served as Country Coordinator and Assistant Professor of the ICT University, Cameroon.
